University of Nicosia Earns the SPE 2019 Student Chapter Award
Academic year 2018-19 proved particularly exciting and rewarding for the SPE Student Chapter at the University of Nicosia. Established in 2013, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter is one of the most active student societies at the University of Nicosia with more than 75 members. Among other activities the SPE Student chapter organizes technical talks, field trips, video screenings, site visits, workshops and competitions. The society hosts various actions which aim to strengthen ties between the academia and the oil & gas industry deemed necessary in meeting the world’s energy needs in a sustainable and yet environmentally friendly fashion.
Recognizing the important role in advancing the discipline of Petroleum Engineering, SPE has awarded the University of Nicosia the Student Chapter Excellence Award for 2019. This prestigious award is the second highest honour a student chapter may receive and is awarded to only 20% of student chapters around the world. The award is granted in recognition of a student chapter’s programs in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development, and innovation. We look forward to another vibrant academic year 2019-20. Our warmest congratulations to the SPE officers with special thanks to the president of the student chapter Mr Kostas Poursanides.
